My photography blog

Google+ is now my blog

Google+ is my blog

Well I've gone and done it, I've now pointed my domains to my +Google+ page. Specifically to a search address that shows all the tidy stuff (not the status update-like posts etc.).

My other blogs (WordPress.com being the main one) are sitting there/here collecting dust and no one reads them plus I'm always on Google+ so it makes sense to move my "blogs" there. In addition my Google+ #Currents edition is exactly what I want from a blog. It uses the content I already post on there, has categories (Sections), a front page and a TOC. It works on mobiles (via Google Currents anyway) and is easy to maintain The layout is basic but clean and there is nothing extra for me to do beyond what I already do on Google+.

Both use hashtags queries so thank goodness I've been adding them since the very early days of G+. I'm also thankful that I've been formatting my posts and reshares for a while. It has benefited the presentation on Currents, for one.

And thank you for +Max Huijgen for the tip for searching under specific users only via the search operator inurl:, For example if you want to see only my posts then type this into the Google+ search box: "inurl:104405539079062799451". Very useful. Thanks, Max!

So you can find my "blog" here:
http://blog.koltregaskes.com

And my photography "blog" here:
http://blog.koltregaskesphotography.com

No, it's not perfect, the search parameters at the top are ugly for a starters, but it's my best option atm.

You can also find my Google Currents edition here:
http://www.google.com/producer/editions/CAowl8c1/kol_tregaskes

All are work-in-progress but all the content is from my Google+ stream. I just need to add a few tags here and there (which I do anyway) and job done. Well it's a test, let's see how I get on. :-)

Moving to WordPress... for now

Hello,

I've finally decided to consolidate all my blogs (AmplifyBloggerPosterousTumblr and WordPress) into one, well certainly make the move to use just the one.  So unfortunately this blog has lost out... for now.  I've making my home at my WordPress sites.  Several reason:

  1. Amplify ditched its extremely useful blogging feature and set very strict limits to title and post lengths
  2. I prefer WordPress for its stats, for its post page, for its themes, for its flexibility and customisation
  3. I'm used to using WordPress from having my own self-hosted site which WordPress
I've pointed my blog subdomains to the respective WordPress blogs, so my general blog will be:
http://blog.koltregaskes.com

And my photography blog will be:
http://blog.koltregaskesphotography.com

I don't think that could be any easier? :-)

You'll probably find me hanging around Google+ a lot and you can hook up with me at:
http://gbuzz.koltregaskes.com

And you'll find my home page (which is my About.me page atm) at:
http://koltregaskes.com

Along with my photography site (currently my Flick slideshow) at:
http://koltregaskesphotography.com

So see you around - hopefully on WordPressGoogle+ or the other various social sites I visit. :-)

Changes to my Posterous websites

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I've posted natively to Posterous.  Services like Amplify have taken up my time, so apologises for that.

I spent a lot of last weekend re-jigged my sites so that they all come under one domain and thus far more manageable from my end.  With this in mind I'm re-jigging Posterous too.  As I've dumped the E-lusion and Squashy/Squashed Frog names what I'm going to do is delete the E-lusion blog and Kol Tregaskes blog, swap the Kol Tregaskes Photography blog to my Kol Tregaskes blog and swap the Squashy Frog Photography blog to Kol Tregaskes Photography blog.

This change will take affect immediately.

See you on the other side! :-)

Kol

How to (Legally) Become a Professional Photographer

A common question asked by an amateur photographer looking to turn professional is, “what equipment do I need?” I’ll skip the discussion around skill and experience being more important than equipment, but before you rush out and buy any equipment or start offering your services to others, you should consider the various liability issues and the options for operating as a legal entity that are available for your business and obtain the proper insurance for both your equipment and liability. I’ll cover specific options available in the United States in this article, although similar concepts are available in other countries.

What I might do there?

Hello all,

Another quick post but what I think I might do here is slowly but surely post my portfolio of photography here.  It might duplicate a little from my Squashy Frog Photography Posterous blog but I'll be posting slightly different versions of the photos here.

Here goes then, first photo is here.

Into the light

Media_httpfarm3staticflickrcom23242268597950b686f7d5a3jpg_sfwcjhditrcbbmc

This was taken on my trip to Hampshire and the New Forest where we found some wonderful donkeys . I was visiting my Aunt who lives with her dog in a mobile home very nearby. The couple in shot are my brother and his girl friend. As you can tell it was cold but you don't know the half of it - it's was really cold. We were having a quick wander around while my Aunt had a rest and over the hill we found a few horses and gusts of winds only normally found in the Arctic, lol.

I took this shot and a closer shot but went with this one. From the original I tried to up the mood and atmosphere here.

Bordered version is here.

Prints are available.
